For as long as she can remember, twelve-year-old Emily Windsnap has lived on a boat. And, oddly enough, for just as long, her mother has seemed anxious to keep her away from the water. But when Mom finally agrees to let her take swimming lessons, Emily makes a startling discovery - about her own identity, the mysterious father she's never met, and the thrilling possibilities and perils shimmering deep below the water's surface. With a sure sense of suspense and richly imaginative details, first-time author Liz Kessler lures us into a glorious undersea world where mermaids study shipwrecks at school and Neptune rules with an iron trident - an enchanting fantasy about family secrets, loyal friendship, and the convention-defying power of love. This was such a cute story. There's two more books in this series. I think if I have a girl I'm definately getting this series for her. It probably would have been one of my favorite books in my pre-teen days. Who wouldn't want to secretly be a mermaid! Good light reading.

Ohh... this sounds like a fun read! I am going to have to mark these as a "to read" on my goodreads bookshelf! Thank you for introducing it to me!
How did you know I secretly wanted to be a mermaid? Did you know that Katie and I would stay up late drawing pictures of ourselves (like those on the Truman Show) on those large mirrors in our apartment? If I ever get to hang out with you all again.. .I think we should definitely draw large mermaid pictures so we can truly imagine what we would look like as mermaids :)
LOL! I totally agree! I'm gunna have make my drawn me a bit thinner though so I don't look more like Ursela! Hee!
